@OhBendy@yanone What we have with Ukraine is Russia effectively pushing people from their country into the East of EU, i.e. countries that are very perceptive to a potential USSR come back and see Ukraine as a fellow due to a shared history under the USSR.
@OhBendy@yanone Plus a fast-paced war and no other countries besides Turkey to fled to. There’s no space for discussion. They have to come this way.
Moreover, by accepting them we peacefully participate in a war that we feel strongly about, but didn’t start and don’t want to wage for security.
@OhBendy@yanone Interpreting the higher willingness to accept refugees as racist is simplified and harmful.
Not saying there was no racism/islamophobia in the decision process re Syria.
Also, we have the West, EU, East of EU. Each with very different sentiments to this.
